Patrol Leader {Peter}

Peter helps Cameron light the candles at the opening of the Court of Honor

Peter and the Erupting Eagle patrol receive their merit badges and other awards from the SPL and (sub) ASPL
Peter shows Joseph the hovercraft he built with Tim and Grandpa Cliff for a patrol outing Friday night.

The first patrol leader for the newly formed Erupting Eagle Patrol, Peter's term is winding down.  Peter led the patrol for the past six months, including at summer camp.  His leadership skills have improved, as have his communication skills and phone manners.

The highlights of his term will include earning National Honor Patrol, and building a hovercraft for a patrol outing.  The hovercraft idea has been brewing in his mind for many months, and due to Tim's genius, and willingness, the dream became a reality in Grandpa's shop.

Like so many wild (boy) ideas, I just shake my head and think, "What in the world?"  But Tim loves a good challenge and bringing visions into actuality is one of his strong-suits.  Exhibit A: the hovercraft.

This thing MOVES!  They built two hovercrafts so that the patrol members could race and chase (and crash) on the large, smooth floor in the meeting hall.  Apparently it was a huge hit and a great time was had by all.

Go figure!

Moving On {Tenderfoot Fitness}

Peter at the 400 meter finish line

Enoch, Nicholas, and Peter record their results in their Scout handbooks.

Older Scouts (older brothers) monitor the push ups and physical fitness exercises.

Troop Guide, Collin, assists Peter with sit ups.
Who's this happy doing sit ups?

Peter's new patrol, the Erupting Eagles, began the 30 day Tenderfoot physical fitness challenge.
For the next month, they will work to improve in the following physical feats: 400 meter run, sit ups, push ups, pull ups and standing long jump.

Most of these Scouts are very active and physically fit as they begin the challenge.  Some need a little extra inspiration (like a Tenderfoot rank requirement) to encourage them to work at improving a difficult physical test like pull ups.  Some begin the 30 days with only a .25 pull up (a quarter of a pull up) and work their way up to a whole pull up, or a pull up and a half.  Others begin with a handful of pull ups and work up to 10 or more.  Either way, the goal is to improve on a personal level, not to compete with other Scouts (though there are a few Scouts in my house who seem to have been born with an extra competitor gene).

Never mind the weather, it's a great time to get outside and get fit.  Ready, set, go!

A Boy Scout At Last {Peter}

 Today Peter became a Boy Scout~ for real!
Yesterday's pack meeting was his final show as a Webelos.

In preparation for the pack meeting, he touched up Grandpa Pete's old Boy Scout uniform and set up a photo shoot to capture the transition from Cub Scouts to Boy Scouts.

Earning every Webelos badge (20 total) made Nicholas, Enoch and Peter SUPER ACHIEVERS.

In Pure Peter Fashion, he didn't just cross the bridge to Boy Scouts, he charged it~ removing his Webelos Badge in the process to make his uniform Boy Scout ready.

This looks like a young man who's ready to leap into Boy Scouts!

Met by his brothers and a big group of older Scouts from the troop, Peter and his den were awarded with new neckerchiefs, epaulets, numerals and slides

The gang's all here - what a great troop!
At tonight's Boy Scout meeting, Peter's new patrol named themselves the...
