Harvester

Peter took a basket and headed out to the front garden to harvest peas.

Had to be a basket.
The peas were served with dinner, and they were delicious!
This variety does not require staking up, which made them very easy to grow.
The corn stalks look healthy, and so do the pumpkin plants.
Some of the apples are funny looking this year, pocked and mis-shapen.
The rhubarb just keeps producing.
Oh, and the weeds are doing very nicely as well :)

Hannegan Pass

Our day hike yesterday to Hannegan Pass filled the void
in our yearning for sweeping mountain vistas.

...and in our desire to climb on large fallen trees with friends:
Matt, Zac, Nathan, and Boaz.

...and in our hopes of finding carpets of wildflowers.

...and in our goals for personal fitness.

...and in our love of great outdoor adventures.

...and in our excitement at sharing a meal in the wild.

...and in our desire to share the beauty of our locale with our visiting priest, Father Luke.

...and in our quest to sled in the middle of summer!

Hannegan Pass day trek: incredible!

 fine print:
We did not see much of the teenagers, who were on a quest of their own to race the 5 miles +2000 ft. up to the summit.
Thankfully, they stopped at Hannegan Camp for lunch, where we were reunited.
Their descent?  Full speed running.
So, some of us appreciated the view and the environs perhaps more than others.

Thank you to everyone who attended Zac's Ignatius Night at the Movies, who donated to the fundraiser, and who assisted with ticket sales, concessions, set-up and clean-up.
What a successful event!
Way to go Zachary...

Thank you, Saint Joseph!

Movie Night!

Tonight is the big night:  Zachary's fundraiser for his
Eagle Scout Project!

Zac and Joseph spent all day yesterday and most of today helping a fellow Scout with his Eagle Project putting in a patio at a local long-term care facility.  They shoveled & hauled away over 4,000 tons of dirt!

They are home for a quick shower, a meal, and out the door we go to set up the gym at Assumption for the big event!

Thank you everyone who has supported this project with your time, and treasure.
We will post later with photos from the family movie night...

Transfiguration

Jesus' Transfiguration is celebrated today!

Today's Gospel Lk 9:28b-36
Jesus took Peter, John, and James
and went up a mountain to pray.
While he was praying his face changed in appearance
and his clothing became dazzling white.
And behold, two men were conversing with him, Moses and Elijah,
who appeared in glory and spoke of his exodus
that he was going to accomplish in Jerusalem.
Peter and his companions had been overcome by sleep,
but becoming fully awake,
they saw his glory and the two men standing with him.
As they were about to part from him, Peter said to Jesus,
“Master, it is good that we are here;
let us make three tents,
one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.”
But he did not know what he was saying.
While he was still speaking,
a cloud came and cast a shadow over them,
and they became frightened when they entered the cloud.
Then from the cloud came a voice that said,
“This is my chosen Son; listen to him.”
After the voice had spoken, Jesus was found alone.
They fell silent and did not at that time
tell anyone what they had seen.

Today is also the day to begin a Novena Prayer to St. Maximilian Kolbe which concludes on his feast day, August 14th.  Join us!
